1997 Hyundai Excel Sprint only running on 2 cylinders? All the lights on the left hand side of the car were out inc. dash & number plate lights but excl. indicators. A friend fixed them and as soon as I pulled the car out of the drive way, the car ran really rough, blowing black smoke from the exhaust, sounded like a lawn mower, etc. Car is only running on the 2 outer cylinders, reaches a max of 30km/h. Checked all spark plugs, they are fine. Changed coil pack & leads, no difference. Battery is fine, engine is still turning over, friction point on clutch is much lower. The car is a 2 door manual. You can clear the electronic steering wheel code on your BMW right from your home garage, saving yourself time and money. The BMW comes standard with an On-Board Diagnostics computer that receives and stores trouble codes sent to it from sensors positioned throughout the vehicle, including from the electronic steering wheel. After repairs have been made, the computer codes need to be reset so any warning lights shut off and the computer can continue to properly monitor the mechanical and electrical functions of the vehicle.

Pop up the hood of your BMW and prop it up with the safety bar.

Locate the negative battery terminal. Find the clamp on the terminal, which has a nut on top of it. Loosen that nut with a wrench. Slide the clamp off of the negative battery terminal, making sure it doesn't touch metal or the positive terminal.

Wait 30 minutes while the computer resets itself, thus clearing all codes.

Reattach the clamp to the negative terminal and tighten the nut. Lower the hood of the car.

Put the key into the ignition and start the engine. Verify the electronic steering wheel light is shut off the instrument panel.

Position the wheel lock key on the wheel lock. Match the recessed lock pattern on the wheel lock to the raised pattern on the wheel lock key. Hold the key in place on the wheel lock with your hand.

Slide the end of the lug wrench over the hex-shaped end of the wheel lock key. Push the end of the lug wrench securely onto the key.

Apply forward pressure to the lug wrench to hold the key in place on the lock. Pull the wrench to the left or counter-clockwise to break the lock free. Continue turning the lock to loosen and remove.
